Nothing is static these days. Websites come and go – sometimes they stay but evolve their look and sometimes they are transient. For example FunkyMartlet has designed sites that were to publicise a campaign or an exhibition – therefore some of our sites have been around for years whilst some have come and gone. We’re pretty relaxed about all of this since it is what is required by the customer.
This section highlights some of the websites developed by FunkyMartlet over the years. As new sites are created we may add some to this section. We’ve kept our archive of older sites displayed here so you can see the variety of work that has been achieved.
The EYE Project
FunkyMartlet are proud to have built the EYE Project site. E.Y.E. or ‘Eco, Young and Engaged’, is a sustainable learning project helping local schools and young people within them to make a positive difference to their environment.
The site allows for a member area for representatives of each participating school to log in and create sections to document their own eco-projects.
The design has evolved over the years as the successful eco project has grown.
Oranje !
FunkyMartlet has worked extensively with Neil Morrans in his various charity and project websites. Initially working to create a site for neilmorransonline.com to highlight his various activities this was complimented by oranjecycling.com.
These have now evolved via oranjebroadasting.com and the companion site GoingDutcharoundtheworld.com which featured Neil’s upcoming cycling travel and blog activities into the new theCyclingStories.com for 2020 being prepared for the post-lockdown period we all look forward to.
This evolution has been a fascinating journey and have given a unique insight via the blogs to the man behind them.
There will be some vlog activity soon, with hopefully FM involvement in the video production and hosting of these activities via the Oranje sites. One to watch.
Sports and Clubs
FunkyMartlet created the initial site for PASS Soccer coaching for youngsters. The development included a session of bespoke photography – one way around having to use stock photography. As always when using people in images it is paramount to ensure permissions are sought and ratified.
FunkyMartlet created a site for Handcross Pétanque – The Pétanque Club for Mid Sussex many years ago using a bespoke CMS.
As the site has grown over the years it has embraced responsive styling (in a style to accentuate their French connections) and conversion to Drupal.
Inclusion of social media feeds and an online calendar ensure this is a first stop destination for members of the club and fellow players of the game.
in the Community…
FunkyMartlet built the first iteration of a website for the first Community Council – Queens Park in London. Minutes and agendas for council meetings are hosted, along with news, events and details of community projects. The design evolved from a community-created logo.
Quayside Tots was built for a local Sussex based playgroup – use being made of child-like fonts in headings and submenus within a customer-driven design intended to look like scraps of paper. This was similar to the original design by FunkyMartlet’s predecessor non-CMS site.
FunkyMartlet are currently supporting another community based website (and also create paper and e-newsletters) for North Lancing CA with this site having being converted over to a new WordPress-based design.
PIPUK – Parent Infant Partnership
FunkyMartlet was commissioned to work through the existing static websites and convert them to a cms driven set of sites. Use was made of Drupal with responsive styling.
During the initial years there were a number of spin-off sites such as Tomorrow’s Child Exhibition, Infant Mental Health Week and 1001 Critical Days. The Tomorrow’s Child Exhibition site featured on its opening page a thumbnail of each of the artwork installations and hovering over each led to their identification and links. In order to give all entrants equality use was made of a random function to ensure that the thumbnails loaded differently each time the page was loaded. The web can be a good way to denote equality by the use of programmatic functionality.
Political sites
As always keeping out of the politics, FunkyMartlet have over many years ran official websites for Sussex MP Tim Loughton. Starting back in 1997 his site has evolved through many designs and with many features.
A companion site TELLTIM was also launched which was focussed on podcasts and surveys.. However the site has now reverted to an in-house Conservative agency although FunkyMartlet continue to provide some other web services.
Specialist sites
FunkyMartlet built and supports a PHP based bespoke accounting and administration system for a local charity. This replaced a previous network-only FoxPro database system.
campaigning
Kosovo Connection is an independent UK registered charity and not-for-profit organisation in Kosovo. This site has been built with expansion and flexibility in mind and supports 3 languages throughout. FunkyMartlet created the graphics and design as well as building the content system.
HHC-Supporters was a single-use site built by FunkyMartlet. HHC Supporters – an action group dedicated to enuring that the Hengistbury Head Centre remained open after concerns that the local Bournemouth council were to close it. This was also a pre-Drupal bespoke implementation.
Film-making
Local independent film maker Mark Jones commissioned a site from FM for his Black Sheep Independent Films – acting as a one-stop hub for his many media involvements. The six most recent projects are highlighted on the front page slideshow and the site has been built as a one-page site – insomuch as the menu will move the user down the main page – an increasingly common approach to sites these days.
A site was also set up for The Never Was – another sci-fi project and the inclusion of the Strange New Worlds leaflets in the slide shows highlights involvement in running a couple of Sussex sci-fi conventions.
